Julia Hsieh

Chief of Staff and Assistant Vice President for Strategy and Operations

Julia Hsieh joined the Office of the Secretary and Vice President  in February 2023, serving as a senior advisor to Secretary Goff-Crews. In this role, she creates and implements strategic plans to advance the university’s goals and priorities. Julia spearheads the university’s Cultivating Conversation initiative and collaborates closely with administrative, faculty, student, and alumni leaders, as well as colleagues from across Yale, on various university-wide initiatives and projects. Julia oversees divisional communications, university events and celebrations, and a range of programs and prizes. She leads the division’s fundraising efforts, partnering closely with Yale Development colleagues.

Prior to her current role, Julia worked in Yale Development for nearly a decade. Her most recent position was as Senior Director for Campaign and Advancement Strategy, where she managed the For Humanity capital campaign at the Yale School of Management. Julia holds an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. in Egyptology from Yale and has published several academic works, including a monograph on Letters to the Dead. In her past life as an academic, she taught beginning hieroglyphs, served as a paleographic artist, and participated in excavations at various sites in Egypt. Julia is a fellow of Pierson College.
