Thoughts on those affected by devastating floods

August 30, 2017

Kimberly Goff-Crews, secretary and vice president for student life, issued the following statement to the Yale community about a campus response to Hurricane Harvey and floods in Sri Lanka, Japan, Malaysia, and India:

Dear Members of the Yale community,

The coastal area of Texas continues to reel from Hurricane Harvey, and as the storm hits Louisiana, our thoughts are with the people of Texas and Louisiana, with our students, faculty, and staff from the region, and with members of our community who have friends and family there now.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help. This historic rain and flooding will affect millions of people for many days, weeks, and perhaps years to come, and members of the university community, including The Texas Society at Yale, are already mobilizing.

As a global university, we should not forget that other devastating flooding has also recently occurred in Sri Lanka, Japan, Malaysia, and India, causing the loss of life and significant damage. Our thoughts and support are also with the members of our community impacted by these events.

Over the next several days, you will hear more about campus-based fundraisers and events you can support. Please let my office know if you are organizing an event that should be added to the list we will post to Yale Connect.
