Community Engagement Objectives

In spring 2026, Yale launched Community Engagement Objectives to enhance university life, activate our mission, and extend our impact beyond campus boundaries. These objectives embody Yale’s commitment to improving the world today and for future generations through meaningful community collaboration.

Build capacity by welcoming, equipping, and celebrating people from all walks of life who share our mission of education and innovation and who contribute to our nation and the world, supporting excellence and mutual advancement, and enabling all community members to achieve their full potential. 

Strengthen collaboration through the open exchange of ideas and views, welcoming dialogue and debate, listening with humility, and learning from one another to create the conditions for sharper thinking, more creativity, and greater innovation that enlighten minds and illuminate truths.

Deepen connections with New Haven, recognizing that our futures are fundamentally intertwined and that our greatest successes come through genuine partnership.

The Office of the Secretary and Vice President for University Life, Office of the Provost, Human Resources, and the Office of New Haven Affairs will partner with university leaders to thoughtfully integrate these objectives into Yale’s operational strategies beginning in fall 2026, while assessing progress and exploring new opportunities through 2029.
